Sporty's E6B Flight Computer App Reviews

Weight & Balance needs some work

Nice app with some room for improvement. Landing CG calculation is is wrong. It seems that moment for the burned fuel is not subtracted from the takeoff moment, so the calculated landing CG is way off. Also, entering the arm for the burned fuel seems redundant. Ability to enter CG/Weight safe operating corners into the aircraft profiles would have been a neat feature. currently the app only tells you if the weight limit is exceeded, but not the CG limit.

Mediocre at best

Its great that all these features are in one app, but the user friendliness and intuitiveness is from the 1990s.

Sportys E6B

EXCELLENT APP! But it would be valuable to have a "true altitude" function, I.e., low temperature altitude corrections. Most newer FMSs provide this, but it would be handy to have it here like it is on the old "Whizz Wheels".

OUTSTANDING RESPONSE TO CUSTOMERS

I noticed that they updated the weight and balance section of the app to allow pilots to enter additional stations for passengers and/or cargo. I submitted that suggestion less than a month ago!!! I have no idea if anyone else brought it to your attention, but Ill claim the responsibility for having done so :-) Way to go, Sportys!! Clearly, you take customer concerns as seriously as you take the rest of the aviation industry. Congratulations

Sportys E6B

Im pretty disappointed with this calculator. It does not live up to its Hype of providing the calculations you can expect on theFAA Knowledge Test. It does not address Corrected Altitude", "Off Course Correction", "Determining Magnetic Heading and Groundspeed" or "Determining Wind Direction and Speed". It seems to me this could be easily fixed but it is not in the current App. Youll still need to carry your cardboard Flight Computer with all the confusing methods of determining the aforementioned computations.

I cant read the small letters in the cockpit !

I guess the e6b in itself is ok. But in the cockpit I need much bigger buttons and fonts!

W&B Function Useless

If you are looking for an app to perform weight and balance calculations to see if you are within your safe flight envelope, dont buy this product. There is no graphical presentation provided. All is does is compute total moment.

Great for flight planning

An instructor recommended this to me to save time on flight plans. While you still need to know how to use the old fashioned E6B, this is such a great tool to have at your disposal. It is simple to use and so far has been accurate. I so learning about all its features but so far, its great.

Clock inop

The clock widget has three clocks that all show the same time; they are labeled to show Zulu, local, and home. Correction....Im an idiot. Fixed under the main settings page. :)

Needs update for iPhone 6+

Please update this app do that its optimized for iPhone 6+ screen with landscape mode.

Fantastic for sim pilots too

Although this was made to help real world pilots. Ive found it increases my enjoyment of flight sim aircraft a lot as well. The descent functions alone are well worth the cost for me. I dont even really pay attention the FMS suggested VNAV anymore on one of my aircraft, this is more accurate! Im very happy, thanks a lot!

Crashes

The iPhone app crashes when opened. Cant get it to work at all.

Flight functions work well, but...

The basic calculator on both the iPhone and iPad version drives me nuts. Some keys number keys as well as the arithmetic keys wont work sometimes. I find myself repeating basic problems over and over. Other calculator apps on these platforms work fine so I know its not an operator issue. UPDATE. THE CALCULATOR IS STILL CRAP

Doesnt Load

As the title says, the app will not load at all. I have tried at least a dozen times to use it but have never been able to.

Solid, easy

Way better than other e6b options. My one gripe and feature request is that the Next, Previous, and tapping an entry field select the full value so I can enter a replacement on the keyboard without hitting the C button every time to clear, since flight planning involves keeping some values the same while changing others for similar calculations.

Good phone app but watch app is useless

I love the iPhone app and use it as my primary e6b. Yesterday I got the Apple Watch and was excited to be able to use functions there instead of having to break out the phone. NOPE. The only thing the watch app does is conversions. When Im flying, I dont need to convert avgas gallons to pounds, I need to be able to calculate heading, distance, and fuel burn to my divert location! Soooo disappointed that the Functions were left out of the watch app.

Worth it!!!

This app does everything it says it does. It has not given me any problems. Best $10 I have ever spent.
